Jim Thompson House Bangkok

The Jim Thompson House is one of Bangkok's most charming and distinctive museums — a complex of six traditional Thai teak houses assembled on a khlong (canal) in the heart of the city, filled with the remarkable Asian art collection of Jim Thompson, the American businessman who famously revived Thailand's silk industry after World War II. Jim Thompson moved to Thailand in 1945 and began purchasing antique Thai silk from weavers near his home, eventually building his revival of the Thai silk industry into an international luxury brand. His home — assembled from traditional Thai houses dating back to the 17th–18th centuries, some sourced from the ancient capital of Ayutthaya — reflects his deep love of Asian art and architecture. The interiors are filled with Burmese, Cambodian, and Chinese antiques, Blue-and-white Delftware, and an exquisite collection of Asian sculpture. Jim Thompson mysteriously disappeared in Malaysia's Cameron Highlands on Easter Sunday 1967 and was never found — adding an air of intrigue to the remarkable story of his life. The house has been preserved exactly as he left it. Guided tours (included in the entry price) depart every 20 minutes. The adjacent Jim Thompson shop sells premium Thai silk products.
