About Grandfather & Grandmother Rocks (Hin Ta Hin Yai)
Koh Samui's most amusingly famous natural landmark — fascinating coastal rock formations resembling human genitalia, set against crashing waves and rocky shoreline.
Hin Ta and Hin Yai (Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks) are Koh Samui's most talked-about and amusingly candid natural attractions. These naturally-formed rock formations on the southern coast of the island near Lamai Beach bear an unmistakable resemblance that has made them famous throughout Thailand. According to local legend, the rocks are the petrified remains of an elderly couple whose boat was wrecked in a storm. The site is surrounded by a small park with shops and vendors, and the adjacent coastal scenery with crashing waves over jagged black rocks is genuinely beautiful. A quirky but unmissable stop.
