Wat Lokayasutharam – Giant Reclining Buddha

Wat Lokayasutharam houses one of Ayutthaya's most extraordinary sights: a 42-metre-long reclining Buddha statue lying peacefully outdoors in an open field of ruins. Unlike most reclining Buddhas which are enclosed within temple buildings, this enormous figure lies exposed to the elements, draped in an orange robe and surrounded by the ruins of what was once a grand temple complex. The scale is extraordinary — the statue's face alone is several metres tall. The open-air setting means visitors experience the statue against a backdrop of sky, ancient brick walls, and surrounding trees, creating a deeply peaceful and photogenic scene. Entry is free, and the site is quieter than the main historical park temples, giving it an especially meditative atmosphere.
