About Big Buddha Phuket

1.5h visit20 km from cityTaxi ~฿350Family Friendly

Phuket’s most iconic landmark — a colossal 45-metre white Burmese marble Buddha atop Nakkerd Hill with breathtaking 360° panoramic views over the entire island. FREE entry.

The Big Buddha of Phuket (พระพุทธมิ่งมงคลเอเนกขริชัยคีรี) stands as Phuket’s most revered and visually striking landmark, perched 383 metres above sea level on the summit of Nakkerd Hill. At 45 metres tall and covered in brilliant white Burmese marble, it is visible from across the island — from Kata and Karon beaches, Patong Bay, and even the Phi Phi Islands on clear days. 🙏 Spiritual Significance Formally known as Phra Phuttha Ming Mongkol Akenakiri, this is an active Buddhist site with resident monks. Construction began in 2004 and was completed in 2015. The site is deeply sacred to the local community — visitors are warmly welcomed but asked to dress modestly. 🗿 What to See & Do

🌄 The Views The 360° panoramic views are the highlight — you can see Kata Beach, Karon Beach, Patong Bay, Chalong Bay, and Rawai all at once. Sunset views (5:30–6:30pm) are among the most spectacular on the island. 👗 Dress Code Covered shoulders and knees are required to enter. Free sarongs are available to borrow at the entrance gate for those not appropriately dressed.

  • The magnificent 45-metre main Buddha statue — the largest in Phuket
  • Climb and walk around the base for 360° panoramic views
  • Smaller Buddha shrines, gilded stupas, and temple bells
  • Nine-tiered Phra Mahathat Chedi pagoda
  • Temple buildings with intricate Thai artwork
  • Resident temple dogs and cats cared for by monks
  • Souvenir stalls and donation boxes for ongoing construction

Best Time to Visit

Daily 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM. Early morning (6–8am) for sunrise views and fewest crowds. Sunset (5:00–6:30pm) for the most spectacular golden light. Avoid midday heat (11am–2pm). Cooler Nov–Apr.
