About Phraya Nakhon Cave
Thailand's most enchanting cave — a royal pavilion bathed in a miraculous shaft of sunlight inside a jungle-cloaked mountain, one of the most breathtaking sights in Southeast Asia.
Phraya Nakhon Cave is arguably the most spectacular natural attraction in the entire Gulf of Thailand region. Located within Sam Roi Yot National Park, it is reached by a boat trip and a challenging 430-metre hike up a steep rocky trail. Inside the cave's second cavern, sunlight pours through a collapsed ceiling to illuminate the Khua Kharuehat Pavilion, a royal sala built in 1890 for King Rama V. The sight of golden light bathing this ornate structure inside a cave draped in stalactites and jungle vegetation is truly otherworldly. The best light falls around 10am–11am. Multiple Thai kings including Rama V, VII, and IX have visited, making it deeply revered.
