Khao San Road (ถนนข้าวสาร) is perhaps the world's most famous backpacker street, a legendary 400-metre stretch in the Banglamphu neighbourhood of Bangkok that has been the launching pad for Southeast Asia adventures for decades. What started as a humble rice market has evolved into a vibrant 24-hour hub of budget guesthouses, bars, restaurants, street food stalls, tattoo parlours, and souvenir shops that draw millions of travellers every year. By day, Khao San comes alive with street food vendors selling everything from pad thai and mango sticky rice to deep-fried insects and fresh fruit smoothies. Souvenir stalls overflow with elephant pants, hand-painted t-shirts, and Thai handicrafts. Tuk tuk drivers jostle for business around every corner. By night, the street transforms completely — neon signs blaze, music pumps from dozens of bars, fire dancers perform on the pavement, and a river of international travellers from every corner of the globe fills every inch of the road. Famous party spots include Brick Bar (live music), Radio (rooftop), and Center Khao San. It is free to visit — you only spend on food, drinks, and shopping.
